Creating Customer Welcome Emails
hosted by Amber Karnes
for solo business owners, artists, ecommunity builders, and anyone with a cool project
In this recorded marketing clinic, you’ll learn how to make lasting connections with your audience by creating a series of automated welcome emails.
Does your audience understand you for real?
Take a moment and ask yourself:
- What do my customers or fans actually know about me?
- Do they understand what I offer? As in, do they actually know what type of work I do?
- Are they aware of whatever problem I can help them solve?
- And if they do understand their problem, do they know that I have a solution to help them?
- Do they grasp why I am perfectly equipped to help them with their unique issue?
- And once they figure all this out, do they know how to plug in with my work? Is it easy for them to say yes?
If you feel unsure about any of your answers, you’re definitely not alone. It’s so frustrating when marketing efforts don’t work. Sometimes you can’t get the right attention, or it’s the wrong price, wrong timing, or a wrong guess.
But sometimes your audience just doesn’t know you well enough to say yes. (Yet!)
In this marketing clinic, I’ll be teaching about how to create a series of automated welcome emails for your audience. Onboarding your people by letting them get to know you better will create lasting connections with your fans and turn acquaintances into loyal customers.
Who is this for?
- Self-employed folks of any kind
- Solo business owners, freelancers, artists, writers
- People with a cool project, even if you don’t think of it as a business
- Community educators, community builders, event producers
- Anyone with a big project they are trying to spread the word about
What will you learn at the marketing clinic?
- Understand the customer journey: what it takes to go from complete stranger to loyal fan
- What type of emails should go into a welcome series so you can create a plan to go build your own
- What to say in each email and how to talk about yourself so your audience understands that you’re the right person to help them
- When should you send and how often
- Tips on picking the right tech tool for email marketing
- Email series ideas for many different types of businesses (product-based, artist, writer, brick and mortar, service-based, community)
- Live Q&A to answer your most pressing questions
What if you felt excited to teach your audience about yourself and your work?
What if customer education could be a fulfilling creative project and not a chore?
How would it feel to take yourself more seriously, professionally? What if you invested in your “little project” with the care you bring to so many other parts of your life? What would happen?
Once your folks get to know you, marketing becomes so much easier.
Invest your time back into your business and take care of your existing audience. And then watch what happens. I’m so excited for you to see.

One of Amber’s standout qualities is her talent for honing ideas and transforming them into effective communication strategies. Her keen insights and thoughtful approach allowed me to refine concepts and present them in the most compelling manner possible. Specifically her feedback helped refine a slide deck so we could get our story across to major investors. Amber’s strategic mindset and attention to detail elevated the overall quality of our work, ensuring that every aspect was well thought out.
Working with Amber was an absolute pleasure. Not only is she professional, but her infectious enthusiasm, unique perspectives and positive energy made the entire experience enjoyable and rewarding. She effortlessly creates a collaborative and supportive environment, fostering creativity and innovation.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Amber. Amber has a potent combination of in-depth knowledge of what meaningful content is AND how to impact fully share it with the world and cultivate community. Her internal communication style when working with her is as skillful as her external marketing skills. She is clear, concise, and honestly warm and relatable. She meets you where you are at whether you are working on a project, or she is guiding you the yoga mat. I cannot recommend Amber and her many talents enough.
About Your Host
Hey, I’m Amber Karnes (she/her). I’m a community builder, educator, and artist.
I am a curious, multi-passionate person and a connector. Over the past 25 years I have built communities and thrown events around yoga, art, craft, graphic design, food justice, the hardcore punk music scene, bikelife, entrepreneurship, and more. I went to school for graphic design and for 10 years, I worked in design and marketing roles in corporate, nonprofits, and as a freelancer.
The past 14 years I’ve been building community (and a business) in the yoga industry. I am the founder of Body Positive Yoga, which is both a teaching method and a community built around body liberation and accessibility. Before March 2020, I was traveling full-time, leading workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings.
Then the pandemic happened and changed everything about my work (and the whole yoga industry). I stopped traveling and have been spending the last 4 years helping the yoga industry get online during the pandemic. Now I support other solo business owners through 1:1 business coaching and marketing strategy.
I’m still in the process of figuring out what my new business looks like. I am rolling out some new work which includes stuff like these marketing clinics, a peer mentorship retreat for solo business owners who are also pivoting their work, a surfing retreat for complete beginners, a marketing game show, a community called the Double Dog Dare Club, and more.
Doing your own thing work-wise is hard. But doing it alone feels impossible.
Learning in community is just better. Here’s what I know: it’s hard to go it alone. There’s no blueprint for this stuff.
Your business (or community or art or teaching) is unique. It’s one-of-one. But that means most of the standard advice that applies to small business probably won’t apply to you.
As solo business owners, we are all building the airplane while we’re flying it. And unless we intentionally create a community support system for ourselves, it feels totally scary and isolating to be in the middle of it all.
It’s easy to just buy another coaching program or online course and hope it’ll solve the fear and trepidation that you (or I) feel. Maybe you wonder if some other expert can give you a magical plan that will quiet your anxious thoughts. Maybe you just want the permission to do what you suspect is the right thing to do, but who do you ask?
I get it, because I want the same thing. My goal with these marketing clinics is to provide a space for learning in community and peer mentorship. You’ll be there with other business owners who share your frustrations, challenges, and insecurities. You’ll see possibilities for yourself reflected in the other folks’ stories and experiences and then take home your own insights to apply to your unique business.
What They’re Saying // Testimonials
“Amber is a very effective teacher. She’s incredibly bright in a non threatening kind of way. I like the way she asks follow up questions. I like that she isn’t afraid to politicize the body or take a public stand against white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy, heteronormativity, and other systems of oppression.”
Working with Amber was fantastic! She was easy to talk to, really understood my challenges, and offered smart, sensible advice for moving forward. If you’re a yoga teacher struggling with your next offering or how to market yourself, I highly recommend working with her. You’ll be glad you did!
