Have you ever noticed how easy it is to help someone else move their project forward, but when it’s time to work on your own thing, you feel stuck, unsure, or end up procrasti-cleaning the kitchen? (Maybe that’s just me)
Feeling stuck on your own project? This might be why.
In a recent Social Media Dropouts peer mentor circle, someone shared that her partner expressed interest in starting a YouTube channel. She immediately whipped up a to-do list, offered tons of smart advice, and got him all set up for success.
Later that same day, she sat down to work on her own project and the blank screen just stared back. Sound familiar?
The group all echoed what she was feeling. We’ve all been there. Maybe it’s the way we’re conditioned: trained to show up for jobs, meet expectations, and answer to supervisors. When there’s structure and accountability, it’s easier to build momentum.
But when you’re your own boss (especially the kind who makes up your job from scratch), it’s a different story.
You don’t need a clone, you need a community
Sometimes you just wish you could clone yourself: create a temporary, second version of you who acts as your coach, supervisor, or support crew.
Kind of like a boss, but not a micro-managey boss who forces you to come to the office in-person and wear pants with a button. The kind who helps you ask the right questions, troubleshoot stuck spots, and move forward without all the overthinking.

That’s what peer mentorship can do. It creates a kind of mirror. When we talk through our work with people who get it, we’re not just getting answers, we’re seeing ourselves more clearly. That clarity? That’s where flow begins.
Flow is hard to find when you’re solo and figuring everything out as you go. But in conversation with peers, mentors, and collaborators, it’s easier to untangle the stuck parts and tap into your natural enthusiasm again.
The power of being seen by people who know you
After teaching two surfing & yoga retreats in Mexico (my first in-person yoga teaching since 2020) I was reminded how powerful it is to be seen and reflected by others. My longtime students told me how I’d grown as a teacher, what still resonated, and what they loved.

co-creating my very first Surfing & Yoga retreat with this group was unforgettable
That feedback helped me step back into my role as a yoga teacher with more ease and confidence. It also has me excited about relaunching Body Positive Yoga on my own terms after a long hiatus. It’s allowed me to step into a new role that I couldn’t fully see for myself until this moment. Something clicked.
So if you’re craving momentum, if you’re ready for the next chapter of your work but feel like you’re not quite there yet, you’re not alone. The good news is, you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.
We’re wrapping up the first cohort of Social Media Dropouts next week. I’m so excited to roll out what’s next:
💬 Social Media Dropouts is becoming a monthly membership for artists, solo business owners, and community builders who want to share our work and connect with the people who care about it. If you want to learn how to do marketing that doesn’t feel gross (and spend less time shouting into the void on social media), this is your club.
We gather twice a month to share support, swap feedback, and celebrate small, doable experiments in marketing that actually feel good. We set aside time to actually do the work and cheer each other on. You’ll get your very own crew of supervisors (the kind who get it). Join the hotlist 🔥 to be the first to know when enrollment opens.
As a small business owner who typically works alone, it was such a breath of fresh air to come together in this way and work parallel to others. The accountability was immensely helpful.

🎯 Project-based cohorts, starting with the One Good Event Challenge, a 3-month live cohort for 12 creators who want to plan and host one low-lift, high-impact event to promote their work. There are a zillion doable events you could host, from easy coffee dates with past clients to Zoom dance parties to community contests. We’ll find the right one for you and your people.
With the support of our small-but-mighty brain trust, you’ll design and host an event that actually feels fun and moves your business forward. Join the hotlist 🔥 to get first dibs on a spot when I open enrollment. Half the spots are already pre-sold to members of the ongoing cohort, so I think it will sell out quickly! If all this sounds like what you’ve been needing, come join us.
And if one-off 1:1 marketing strategy & coaching sessions are more like what you need, I offer those too. From time to time, coaching sessions lead us into a bigger “done-with-you” project; recent clients have booked me to help them design a retreat, write marketing emails for their studio’s Yoga Teacher Training, or design limited edition merchandise for their online studio.
“Amber entered my world just when I needed her most. After years of doing this work on my own, I found in her not just a mentor — but a true ally, creative collaborator, and wise friend.
Amber’s guidance has helped shape every part of my work: from designing sold-out retreats, to navigating burnout, to gently setting boundaries that honour my life and values.
