About Your Hosts
Take a ride in the way-back machine! We (Amber and Chel) first met in 2005 as co-workers, back in our “office life” as marketing contractors for a Fortune 500 company. With our interest in digital marketing and social media, we ended up launching Facebook and Twitter (now X) accounts and creating social media training for the company.
This, of course, was long before we traded in our corporate attire for yoga pants and working from home. Back then, we worked tirelessly on our side hustles, loved writing our own blogs and even attended a Blog World conference together in 2006.
Growing our own wellness side hustles and kissing goodbye to corporate life, our similar interests have always brought us back together. We frequently work on collaborations — like hosting a Body Positive Yoga Retreat in the Outer Banks in 2017. Through years of life’s ups and downs, we’ve remained good friends, finding time for beach outings, surfing and travel.
We connect weekly over Zoom to co-work on our individual projects— me (Amber) in North Carolina and Chel in Mexico. This mix of friendship and collaboration keeps us inspired and supported.
I’m still in the process of figuring out what my new business looks like. I am rolling out some new work which includes stuff like these marketing clinics, Pivot: a peer mentorship retreat for solo business owners who are reinventing their work, a marketing game show, retreat consulting work, and more.

Hey, I’m Amber Karnes (she/her). I’m a community builder, educator, and artist.
I am a curious, multi-passionate person and a connector. Over the past 25 years I have built communities and thrown events around yoga, art, craft, graphic design, food justice, the hardcore punk music scene, bikelife, entrepreneurship, and more. I went to school for graphic design and for 10 years, I worked in design and marketing roles in corporate, nonprofits, and as a freelancer.
The past 14 years I’ve been building community (and a business) in the yoga industry. I am the creator of Body Positive Yoga, which is both a teaching method and a community built around body liberation and accessibility. Among other learning experiences, I have sold out over a dozen wellness retreats over the past 10 years. Retreats are absolutely my favorite way to work. Before March 2020, I was traveling full-time, leading workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings.
Then the pandemic happened and changed everything about my work (and the whole yoga industry). I stopped traveling and have been spending the last 4 years helping the yoga industry get online during the pandemic. Now I support other solo business owners through 1:1 business coaching and marketing strategy.
I’m still in the process of figuring out what my new business looks like. Chel Rogerson

Chel has been teaching yoga since 2013, she’s also a meditation teacher, Intuitive Wellbeing Coach and energy worker, offering healing sessions infusing yoga nidra, chakra balancing and Reiki.
Once an executive working for Fortune 500 companies, she changed the course of her life by embracing minimalism, practicing mindfulness and choosing to become a “corporate drop out.” A time of self discovery led her to yoga teacher training and the lessons of Pranahamsa Yogananda at the Self-Realization Fellowship. She has adventured around the world solo and practiced meditation in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar. With this unique perspective, she’s passionate about helping others who feel “stuck” in life to overcome stress and difficult situations to seek happiness and joy.
Chel has been living as an expat in Sayulita, Mexico, since 2017, where she co-founded Evoka | Sayulita Yoga School (offering Yoga-Alliance certified yoga teacher trainings and immersion retreats). She also offers Reiki certification courses in Sayulita and online.
Married to an Argentinian, the two live in Mexico much of the year, while spending time traveling back to their home countries. She will always consider the Outer Banks of North Carolina “home.” She enjoys hula hoop/flow arts, surfing and staring into sunsets.

Doing your own thing work-wise is hard. But doing it alone feels impossible.
In my own experience, body doubling has really transformed the way remote solo business owners like us feel supported.
Every week, I hop on Zoom with Chel and we work together side by side (even though she’s in Mexico and I’m in North Carolina!) on our own projects. The energy from our sessions sparks a ton of inspiration, including this workshop. We also meet a few times a year in person, creating our own personal co-working retreats.

Do I need any previous website marketing knowledge to attend?
Not at all! This workshop is designed for total beginners. Anyone who has a website on any platform (Wix, WordPress, Squarespace, etc.) will learn key SEO essentials that will help you find your customers online. Everything we teach, we have done ourselves, and you can too.
Do I need to pay for expensive SEO software or subscriptions?
